For my bachelor project, I collaborated with Jens Demarest to create "Shared Memories", an installation where four individual, anonymous memories are transformed into a symphony of light and sound. Visitors choose a plaque representing a memory and place it on a central shrine. After the experience, flipping the plaque reveals the associated memory.
We initially collected these memories via a form, receiving 34 responses, and then selected 4 for in-depth interviews, thoroughly exploring each memory. All participants were from our own circles. We then created two-minute soundscapes played through four directional speakers to spatially immerse the visitor in sound.
The visual elements on the LED panels are designed to support the auditory experience without overwhelming it. They remain abstract due to the low resolution of the panels. Each panel (10 in total) consists of 4 horizontal and 80 vertical pixels. This limitation allowed us to work and explore within abstraction.
Our concept begins with a voluntary memory and aims to involuntarily remind visitors of their own experiences. This reflects our quest for artistic and accessible ways to integrate others' memories into an installation.
For this project, our final jury, we were honored to receive the Jury Prize, recognizing our innovative approach and artistic execution in blending personal memories with interactive technology.
